Teach your family real life money skills — with a resource built specifically for New Zealand and Australian life.

💡 What’s inside?

The eight topics covered:

01 — Money Foundations What money is, how it works, where it came from, and the four things every dollar does: Earn, Save, Spend, Give. Includes a coin and note scavenger hunt, a cut-and-paste sorting activity, and a money timeline sequencing activity.

02 — Earning Money How wages, salaries, PAYE tax, ACC levies, KiwiSaver, and Superannuation actually work. Includes a real sample payslip with related questions, an AUS comparison exercise, a job menu activity, and an earning crossword.

03 — Needs vs. Wants Going deeper than the simple definition — context, grey areas, and how advertising deliberately blurs the line. Includes a catalogue sort activity, an advertising technique spotter, a 25-item needs/wants sort worksheet, and a Make Your Own Ad creative activity.

04 — Budgeting Basics The three main budgeting methods (50/30/20, zero-based, and the envelope method), a fully worked example Tane family budget with realistic NZ figures, and a printable board game — the Pocket Money Path game — for ages 6–12. Includes both a simple and a detailed monthly budget worksheet.

05 — Banking & Saving How banks work, types of accounts, compound interest explained with a fill-in table and colouring chart, KiwiSaver and Superannuation explained in plain language, and a savings goal planner. Includes a compound interest growth activity using sorted.org.nz and moneysmart.gov.au.

06 — Debt & Borrowing Good debt vs bad debt, how interest makes debt grow, Afterpay and BNPL services explained honestly, a debt card game for the whole family, a two-paths credit card comparison worksheet, and a debt word search.

07 — Smart Shopping & Consumer Skills Price per unit, GST in NZ (15%) and AUS (10%), your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act and Australian Consumer Law, a supermarket price investigation activity, and a Price Per Unit Race — a competitive two-player game for ages 7+.

08 — Big Goals & Life Planning Financial milestones of adult life, the basics of investing, Sharesies and Superannuation platforms explained, a Life Milestones Money Map activity, and a five-year financial goal worksheet. Includes a unit review quiz and a certificate of completion.

Why this is different from every other budgeting resource:

It’s NZ and AUS specific — KiwiSaver, Superannuation, GST, eftpos, Afterpay, Pak’nSave, Countdown, Trade Me, the CGA and ACL, Sharesies, Hatch, Stake. All of it. Real context, real examples, real numbers.

It covers every age at once — one resource, one conversation, the whole family learning together rather than separate curricula for different ages.

It goes beyond worksheets — the Pocket Money Path board game, the Price Per Unit Race, the Make Your Own Ad creative activity, the Debt Card Game, and the Coin Scavenger Hunt make this genuinely hands-on and fun for younger kids.

The extras are actually useful — not filler. The budgeting posters are designed to go on the wall. The colouring pages will genuinely keep little ones busy. The savings tracker jar is something kids will want to display.

It’s made by a Kiwi, for Kiwi and Australian families — written from lived experience, not adapted from overseas content.
